NIBLO, the project to control smart warehouses through AI and Blockchain
We are part of a business consortium created to carry out the NIBLO project, which aims to design smart warehouses using artificial intelligence and blockchain to enable industrial companies to efficiently manage and monitor spaces.
This initiative aims to provide companies with a solution for in-plant traceability and logistics based on LIDAR technology, a device that allows determining the distance from a laser emitter to a target using a pulsed laser beam, as well as AI and blockchain.
Our company is the enabling organisation leading the design and development of artificial intelligence algorithms for RGB imaging for in-plant element location, as well as coordinating in-plant integration and pilot testing. We also led the design and development of a solution based on blockchain technology for the traceability of material certificates for parts manufactured by other companies in the consortium.
"Izertis has an extensive portfolio of R&D&I projects carried out in the last three years, which demonstrates the great capacity we have as a company to innovate and adopt emerging technologies to the particular requirements demanded by each client or project", has highlighted Raquel García, our Innovation Consultant.
Building the dataset of 2D images obtained in the plant, developing the algorithms and models for image analysis, and designing and developing a Smart Contract system that enables the traceability of the parts, are just some of the functions carried out by our team. As well as developing a user interface for the operation and configuration of the system or validating the blockchain system under representative conditions in a real environment.
Regarding the six work packages into which the project is divided, our company participates in all of them, and leads three of them; WP2, development of the AI module for 2D RGB imaging; WP4, blockchain system for the traceability of the parts manufacturing process; and WP5, integration and piloting in the plant.

The challenges we have faced in tackling this idea include detection in the factory, where stacking of packages is a problem for locating parts on shelves, as well as recognition of free areas in factories or warehouses. Also, documentary traceability and certificates of the product or pieces in the factory.
This initiative has been carried out by a business consortium formed by industrial organisations; Hiasa Gonvarri Industries, OXIPLANT and IBERASTUR, by companies from the ICT sector; Izertis and Táctica TIC, and by clusters; Metaindustry4 and Secpho.
NIBLO is a project financed thanks to the funds received by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, through the 2022 call for Innovative Business Clusters, within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
