CONSUVET
Traceability in blockchain for the veterinary sector
The project
In the veterinary sector, accurate and timely medicines management is crucial for animal health. However, traditional methods often lead to inefficiencies and errors. Izertis and Consuvet collaborated to overcome these challenges using blockchain technology.
Consuvet, a veterinary consulting firm, faced significant challenges in managing veterinary prescriptions. The main problem was the prevalent practice of "reverse prescription", where medicines were administered to animals based on symptoms before an official, verified prescription was obtained. This led to inappropriate use of medicines, particularly antibiotics, and compromised the management and treatment of animals.
Challenges
-
Ensure accurate identification: correctly identify animals prior to treatment.
-
Check treatment histories: access and verify historical animal treatment data.
-
Streamline prescription processes: develop a more efficient and transparent method for issuing prescriptions.
-
Facilitating the process for stakeholders without friction with a tailor-made UX
The solution
Izertis has proposed a blockchain-based system designed to revolutionise the management of veterinary prescriptions. The main objective is to prevent the administration of prescription drugs without proper veterinary certification. This new system ensures that every step, from animal identification and diagnostic tests to medicines administration, is recorded on a blockchain. This immutable ledger provides a transparent and tamper-proof record, ensuring that all data is accurate and up to date.
In addition, we are looking to enable Consuvet to integrate multiple platforms, such as Presvet, Generecetras and PrescriVet, thereby improving data accessibility and regulatory compliance, and significantly reducing the likelihood of fraudulent prescriptions.
The result
The implementation of the blockchain solution has revolutionised the veterinary practice at Consuvet, bringing multiple benefits:
- Accuracy and effectiveness of treatments: Accurate identification and evidence-based diagnostics have significantly improved the quality of treatment.
- Operational transparency: Full visibility of the prescription process through blockchain has increased trust among all participants, from veterinarians to livestock farmers to pharmacists.
- Control of the use of medicines: Improved traceability has drastically reduced drug abuse and misuse, tackling antibiotic resistance head-on.
- Adherence to regulation: Effective integration with regulatory authorities ensures that all activities comply with the highest legal and ethical standards.
