Identfy
Identfy, Spain's first Open Source digital wallet, facilitates autonomous and decentralized
The project
In an ever-evolving digital world, identity has become a critical resource. In this hyper-connected life there are countless challenges that test the user's ability to preserve privacy while requiring autonomy to manage identification processes. The challenge is therefore to harmonise and simplify the management of digital identities.
We come from an environment where the user has no control over the use made of his or her identity, and in this context, self-managed digital identity (SSI) and verifiable credentials are born. Through the user-centricphilosophy, the aim is to give citizens autonomy and sovereignty over their identity and those attributes linked to their person, such as health records, academic qualifications, certificates, etc.
In addition, the eIDAS2 regulation has recently been approved, which creates a regulatory framework for the use of self-managed digital identity for European Union citizens and which requires states to provide citizens with a Wallet for the management of SSI and credentials.

Challenges
-
To have a secure tool for the new digital identity.
-
Improve identification processes between users and companies and citizens and public and private entities.
-
Safeguard the sovereignty of users over their identity and personal data.
-
Harmonising and facilitating the standardisation of accreditation documents.
-
To facilitate the interoperability of identity-related procedures for citizens throughout the Community territory.
-
Help organizations to improve the user experience and find new business models.
The solution
Izertis has devised Identfy: a product specifically created for the issuance and presentation of verifiable credentials linked to a self-managed digital identity. It has been developed and tested in several use cases. Of particular relevance is the case of EBSI-Vector, which has been awarded by INATBA as the best Blockchain project in 2023, in which Izertis was the leader.
Identfy is a solution aligned with the eIDAS2 regulation and has been conceived with end users in mind, who are the owners of their digital identity, and the organisations and companies that have to act as issuers and managers of this identity.
Our proposal consists of a Wallet for the user (HOLDER WALLET) and another for the entity (ORGANIZATION WALLET) that allows to give all parties the tools for the new model of interaction between parties.
On the one hand, the citizen user will have the ability to store and use his or her digital identity while preserving the autonomy over it, as well as to request, host and present accreditation documents in credential format.
In addition, the entity or organisation is empowered to offer a service demanded by the user, having the possibility to request credential submissions and verify them, as well as to be issuers of credentials themselves, opening the door to new business models and better user experiences.
This product is built on the layer of trust and security provided by DLT technology, which is the basis of the decentralised environment that underpins the concept of sovereign identity.
In short, Identfy is the answer to the need to enable a new way of interacting in the triangle of trust where the user as the owner of his data, the issuer as the identity and credentials provider and the verifier as the interested party are integrated.
The result
A platform with two main components:
- Holder wallet: A mobile application whose primary use is the secure identification and authentication of users before public and private service providers, and whose scope extends to secure access to services and documentation in areas such as health, education, borders or finance, through digital identity and credentials with a focus on privacy and data control by the user.
- Enterprise wallet: A service that allows public administration, businesses, trusted suppliers and other organisations to issue and revoke credentials, verify submissions, and integrate with existing systems where qualified data can be stored.
Indentfy is aligned with the eIDAS2 standard, ensuring:
- Interoperability: It ensures usability in all member states, facilitating efficient transactions and identity management.
- Non-custodial: It gives users full control over their credentials and identity, differentiating it from centralised models and enhancing security and privacy.
- Selective disclosure: The ability to show data to another party without revealing more than is necessary in each case.
- Biometric identification: Providing a simple identity verification system.
- Use of standards: seeking to facilitate access and management of credentials.
- Compliance: complying with the privacy regulations established by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
- Security and immutability: using decentralised DLT technologies for the electronic recording of information, making it legally valid.
